Girona Cycling Holidays

You will arrive in Girona, where an organised transfer will take you to Serinyà, a small village just north of the city. Accommodation will be arranged at a quiet countryside hotel on the edge of the village, which will be your base for the first two nights of the tour. Bikes will be collected here, followed by a short orientation to prepare for the cycling days ahead. The remainder of the day will be reserved for arrival and settling in.

You will start cycling from Serinyà, riding on rural roads toward Banyoles, with three loop options available. The shorter option will stay close to Banyoles, with mostly flat terrain and calm backroads around the lake area. The medium option will extend further through the surrounding countryside, introducing gentle climbs and rolling terrain between small inland settlements. The longest option will head into higher terrain north of Banyoles, featuring longer climbs and a more demanding profile.

You will leave Serinyà and ride east across the Empordà plain on low-traffic roads. Midway through the stage, you will pass Figueres, the birthplace of Salvador Dalí, offering a cultural reference point without entering the busy town center. As you continue toward the coast, the terrain will gradually rise and become more undulating, marking the transition from inland farmland to the rugged landscapes of the Cap de Creus Natural Park. The day will finish in El Port de la Selva, a traditional coastal village set on a sheltered bay, where the Mediterranean comes fully into view.

The day will begin with an inland climb above El Port de la Selva, leading you through the rugged terrain of the Cap de Creus Natural Park. From here, you will descend toward the Empordà plain, where the route will become flatter and follow quiet agricultural roads. The stage will continue south through open countryside before ending in Madremanya, a well-preserved medieval village known for its stone houses and calm village setting.

From Madremanya, you will head east toward the coast, climbing gradually through the wooded hills of Les Gavarres Natural Park. After descending toward the sea, you will follow sections of the Costa Brava, riding past small coves and coastal headlands on undulating roads. The final kilometres will trace the shoreline before finishing in Tossa de Mar, where the medieval walls of Vila Vella rise directly above the sea.

The final stage will lead you inland from Tossa de Mar, climbing away from the coast through forested hills before crossing quieter roads. You will pass through Les Gavarres Natural Park, a protected Mediterranean hill range known for its cork oak forests and traditional rural estates,  with the option to shorten the route if needed. As you approach the end of the ride, you will enter Girona, finishing near the historic old town, where medieval walls, the cathedral, and the former Jewish quarter define the city’s character.

The tour will conclude in Girona, with time to explore the city before departure. You will be able to visit the Cathedral of Girona, walk along sections of the medieval city walls, or see the Arab Baths, a well-preserved Romanesque complex near the old town. A walk across the Pont de les Peixateries Velles, designed by Gustave Eiffel, offers final views over the Onyar River before you depart from Girona or continue your travels.
